Presenting The Sobrarbe Region
The Sobrarbe region is situated in the heart of the Aragonese Pyrenees in the province of Huesca.
Sobrarbe occupies 2.200 square kilometres of the central Pyrenees and pre-Pyrenean sierras as well as the River Ara basin and the headwaters and tributaries of the River Cinca.
8ooo people currently live in Sobrarbe, most of them working in the primary and secondary sectors (services).
The Sobrarbe’s northern region is furrowed by the valleys of the Rivers Ara, Cinca and Cinqueta. The central area is made up of several plain areas such as Broto, Fiscal, Arcusa and La Fueva. The pre-Pyrenean ranges of Guara y Olsón lie to the south.
The landscape is defined by its high altitudes and rough terrain : 62 % of its territory lies at an altitude of more than 1.000 mts, 31% is between 601 y 1000 mts and only 6% of its territories are between altitudes of 401 y 600mts.
The region boasts a National Park (PN of Ordesa and Monte Perdido) and two Natural Parks (Posets Maladeta and Sierra and Canyons of Guara), in addition to endless magical nooks and crannies.
Sobrarbe has nature, heritage, leisure and relaxation to offer for all ages. Through this website, we hope to reveal our region and people’s rich culture to you the visitor and help you to get to know it better.
