The Navatas river descent – Laspuña

One of spring’s most important dates in this part of the Pyrenees is the “Navatas”. This event commemorates the old tradition of transporting logs down the Pyrenean Rivers to the Ebro Delta. Taking advantage of the snow melt, the navateros steered their log rafts through the choppy river waters for long distances and at great personal risk.

Today, every third Sunday in May, several Navatas go down the River Cinca from Laspuña to Ainsa in honour of the old Navateros.

In 2013, the Navatas were declared as Intangible Heritage of Cultural Interest by the Aragonese government.
