Los Trucos – Chistau Valley

The fiesta of Los Trucos is held every year in the Chistau Valley for San Antón ( 17th of January). A recently restored tradition symbolizing the shepherd’s vitality according to the noise the cow bells make.

The crowd, lead by the elders dressed in hides and bearing their unmistakable horns, awaken the neighbours from each village that then join the ever noisier throng with their cow bells. One by one they visit the villages of Saravillo, Gistaín, San Juan de Plan, Plan, Sin and Serveto.

The sound of cow bells disappeared when transhumance died out, but since a few years ago, every San Antón, their sound can once again be heard, echoing the time when the herds would return from the “lowlands”.
